Kids smartwatch with GPS: the complete guide

A kids smartwatch lets your child call you and lets you see roughly where they are, without handing a young child a smartphone. Here is what it does, who it suits and what to check before you buy.

  • Official Wonlex dealer in Greece
  • Official dealer warranty
  • Support in Greek
  • No subscription: works with your own SIM

What to look for

Location you can check

The watch combines GPS with mobile-network (LBS) and Wi‑Fi positioning, so you can see its location in the app, outdoors and often indoors. Accuracy depends on where the child is: GPS is best in the open, while indoors the position is usually an estimate.

Voice and video calls over 4G

Your child can call the contacts you add, and you can call them. Many 4G models also support video calls; check the product page of the model you choose.

SOS button and safe zones

Pressing the SOS button alerts the family numbers you set. In the app you can also draw safe zones (geo-fences), for example around home or school, and get a notification when the watch leaves them.

Class mode for school hours

Class mode (school mode) silences the watch during the hours you choose, so it doesn't distract in class. You set everything remotely from the parent app: contacts, class mode, safe zones.

Setup tips

  1. Get the nano-SIM ready before the watch arrives: mobile data and caller ID on, PIN removed. Our SIM guide explains each step.
  2. Pair the watch with the companion app (SeTracker or SeTracker2) by scanning its registration code, then add only the contacts your child should be able to call.
  3. Set class mode to the school timetable and a safe zone around home and school.
  4. Talk with your child about the watch: what it does, when you look at the location and why. Children should know they wear a watch that shows where they are.
  5. Make charging part of the evening routine, like brushing teeth, so the watch is ready every morning.
  6. After the first week, review the settings with your child: is a contact missing, is anything bothering them at school, does the battery last until evening?

Good to know before you buy

  • The watch needs mobile coverage and a charged battery. Without signal, data or charge, it can't report its location or make calls.
  • Location is an estimate. Indoors, underground or between tall buildings it can be off by tens or hundreds of metres.
  • It is not a replacement for supervision or for the emergency services. In an emergency, call 112.
  • Location data of a child is personal data under the GDPR and is processed by the companion app provider (SeTracker). Read its privacy policy before you start.
  • Features and specifications (water resistance, screen, battery) differ from model to model. Check each watch's page.

Questions parents ask

Does a kids smartwatch need a SIM card?

Yes. A 4G kids smartwatch needs a nano-SIM with mobile data for location and the app, and with call minutes if you want calls. The SIM is your own and is not included. Prepaid and contract SIMs both work.

Is there a monthly subscription?

Not to us. You only pay your mobile operator for the SIM plan you choose. The companion app is downloaded from the app store.

How accurate is the location?

Outdoors with a clear view of the sky, GPS is usually the most accurate. Indoors the watch relies on Wi‑Fi and mobile-network positioning, which is less precise. Treat the position as a guide, not an exact point.

Can my child call anyone, or can strangers call the watch?

You decide the contact list from the app. Depending on the model and app settings, you can limit calls to the contacts you have approved. Check this setting during setup.

Is it legal to track my child's location?

This is general information, not legal advice. Parents and guardians decide for young children; in Greece the age of digital consent is 15 (Law 4624/2019, art. 21). Whatever the age, tell your child about the watch and never track secretly. Only track a child you are responsible for.

How is it different from an adult smartwatch?

A 4G kids smartwatch has its own SIM, so it makes calls and sends its location without a phone nearby. Many adult smartwatches connect to their owner's phone over Bluetooth. And on a kids watch, the parent sets the contacts and settings from the app.
