Kids smartwatch with video calls
Seeing your face when they miss you, or showing you the drawing they made at after-school club: for many families that is why they pick a 4G watch. Here is how video calling works, what it needs and how to use it well.

What to look for
Video calls over 4G
Video calls use the mobile data on the SIM you put in the watch. You start the call from the app on your phone and your child answers on the watch. Whether the child can start a video call too depends on the model.
Good signal, clear picture
Picture quality depends on 4G coverage where your child is, and on your own phone's connection. In basements or weak-signal spots the picture may freeze or the call may not connect.
Family only
Video calls go through the watch's app, with the family members you have linked to the watch. You decide who they are.
Battery and data
Video calling is the most demanding thing a kids watch does: it uses more battery and more data than a voice call. Keeping video calls short helps the watch last the day.

Setup tips
- Before the first video call, check that the watch SIM has enough data and the watch shows 4G signal.
- Make a test video call at home with your child next to you, so they learn how to answer and hang up.
- Agree on when video calls happen, for example when they arrive at grandma's or during a break at after-school club, and not during lessons.
- If the grandparents have a smartphone, add them in the app. These often become the child's favourite calls.
- In the first weeks, check data use in your operator's app and change plan if you need to.
Good to know before you buy
- Without data or with a weak signal, a video call will not connect or the picture will drop.
- A watch has a small screen and camera. Do not expect the picture quality of a phone or tablet.
- Frequent, long video calls drain the battery faster.
- Video-call features differ between models. Check the watch's page or ask us before you buy.
Questions parents ask
Who can my child video call?
The family members who have linked to the watch in the app. You manage that list.
Can grandad video call from a basic phone?
Video calls need a smartphone with the watch's app. For a voice call, it is enough that his number is in the watch contacts and shows when he calls, even from a basic mobile or a landline.
How much data does a video call use?
It depends on the length of the call and the connection quality, and we do not yet have a confirmed figure per model. The surest way: make a few video calls in the first week and check the usage in your operator's app.
Will the watch disturb lessons?
If you set class mode, the watch goes quiet during the hours you choose, so it does not distract your child in class. Outside those hours it works as normal.
Do I really need video calls?
Not for safety: voice calls, location and SOS cover the basics. Video is a nice extra, especially when your child spends long hours away from you or has relatives in another city.
